Activities and Resources for my Picture Books

As a school-based speech-language pathologist, one of my favorite therapy tools are picture books.

Why? Picture books are the ultimate language launchpad.

Shared reading moments develop and fortify critical thinking skills, narratives, and vocabulary in ways that no other therapy or educational material can. This is because picture books are not simply books; they are a medium for human connection. In a fast-paced world where even the simplest moments feel rushed, shared reading allows children and adults to feel ‘present’ again and to truly savor the gift of attention and time.

When I read with my students, I can spend an entire 30 minutes just discussing the cover of a picture book. Creating corresponding activities based on a particular picture book enhances comprehension and joy. Puppets, story sequencing crafts, mock character interviews are just a few activities that I’ve utilized over the years. The possibilities are endless. Here in this blog you will find various resources that can be used in conjunction with my two picture books, The Coquíes Still Sing and Churro Stand.
